The difference between debossing and embossing is the actual appearance of the finished product. Both processes utilize a combination of heat and pressure to create three dimensional designs in a wide array of materials. With embossing techniques, logos and text are created as raised images in mediums, such as leather, bags, or paper. Likewise, with debossing, the same combination of heat and pressure is applied around the desired design to create depressions (rather than raised impressions) of the image. Debossing can be applied to all the same types of materials as embossing. Both processes can create beautiful, detailed images with sculptural and dimensional qualities that can be customized to fit your specific needs.

At Luscan Group, we primarily use debossing and embossing techniques for leather products, such as planners, business portfolios, suitcases, and wallets. Single-level, multi-level, beveled, or sculptured processes can be used to further personalize your project. These techniques can be used without ink (blind embossing and debossing) or combined with a variety of colored inks and foils for added special effects to create desired visual and textural appeal.
